Best Open Back Headphones Under $300?

If you want the full-on audiophile experience but have only $100 to spend, get the Grado SR80e. These headphones give much of that big, spacious sound we heard from the HE400S. Grado headphones all sound treble-heavy, emphasizing instruments such as cymbals and acoustic guitar, bringing out the breathiness in woodwinds and the upper notes of piano. They also de-emphasize bass, so you get less of the groove of a tune; I can’t recall any reviewer ever saying Grados got his foot tapping. Many of the company’s headphones sound too trebly for us, but we think the SR80e model sounds more balanced than most Grados. You’ll still hear all that detail and spaciousness, but you’ll get a reasonable amount of groove, too.

I still have not gotten by the store to try some out. Hopefully the weather will start getting nice soon.

My choices would be the Sennheiser 58X, and secondly the Hifiman he400s. This is subjective of course, but best to my ears from what I've heard.
