I'll just go with a Sennheiser since that's what I'm using now and enjoy the sound signature. Maybe I'll give the HD598's a go since it's very popular and reliable and a direct upgrade for my 558's... Anyway, I'll see about the Ossic's once they are released. Anyway, thanks.

Your preferences are key here.

- Fidelio X2 has good soundstage, luxurious build, big bass and present treble.

- HD600/650 are more refined but less 'fun' for energetic genres. Their soundstage is smaller as well.

- K702 is a top performer in terms of neutral response, bass speed, midrange clarity and soundstage, but it's far from being a good all-rounder

- K712 is kind of a crossbreed between K702 and HD650

- DT990 has tons of treble and sharpness (highlighting useful details in games but ruling out bright recordings), lush mids and powerful yet relatively clean mid-bass. Big stage but not as layered as K702's

- DT880 is neutralish like the K702, just a tad more bass but still less than HD600. It has soft upper mids like the HD800 and very detailed, extremely 'fast' and extended treble. Soundstage is not huge, but it's very airy and imaging for gaming is quite good. Bass-light for genres which demand a boost in the bass, too bright for poor recordings, great all-rounder otherwise.

I prefer neutral and natural sounding headphones that are new and not used. Also soundstage (height and depth) also, not as much of a basshead although a little bass emphasis would be fine but not like x2.

I am leanjng towards DT990, HD598 ( Senn released new models.) and K702. Reminder: Neutral sound and realistic soundstage for music and gaming. But, there are the ossic's which is a gamble right now so I will have to wait and see if it's a steaming pile of dog **** or worth the wait.

K702's are made in Austria and K7XX's are made in China. They come with different pads and that is meant to account for the minor differences in the sound. Oh, and the price. 702's are $350 and Kxx's are $200.

K702's are now made in China as well (200-250usd)
Only some K712 are made in Austria (300-350usd)

K702 is a neutralish studio like dry and analytic headphone
K712 is warmer and more forgiving at the expense of ultimate soundstage size
K7XX is even warmer so quite different from the classic K702

My mistake. I was referring specifically to the K702 Anniversary edition (Annies) which I believe has more bass than the standard K702, is generally warmer, is produced in Austria, and from what I've heard quite similar to the K7xx's. I've never heard the standard or Anniversary K702's but the internet wouldn't lie to me, would it?

You are correct about K702 Annie version,
It's probably the same as K7xx but made in Austria.
Annies are not in production though, so there aren't many brand new Annies these days.

So, looked into Audio Technica, so which headphone do you guys think will fit my bill? (i.e., R70x, AD1000X, AD700X, ADG1, etc.)? Also, how do they compare to Sennheisers (HD600, 598, 650, etc). Which brand should I go with for gaming and for music and which brand sounds good with most genres of music with my budget?
