The Sennheiser HD598's or HD558's seem to be good, but then again, the Philips SHP9500 seems to be getting quite a bit of support. I definitely want something with a good sound-stage, and to have the most balance possible,
I compare the HD558 to the SHP9500 a couple times in the SHP9500 thread. The HD558 is fine, I understand why people might like it, but I'm not a big fan, especially when it costs more than the SHP9500.
HD558 has a wider soundstage. SHP9500 has a taller soundstage. HD558 is sort of like having the sounds compressed in a tunnel. 9500 is more airy and open.
HD558 puts the mids in your face. SHP9500 is more balanced.
For $200, there's a lot of possibilities. The AKG 612/701/702/xx family. DT990, DT880. etc. I love my DT990 as a "do everything" headphone, but it's not balanced without eq'ing it, (which I do), so the DT880 would be better in that regard.
