Im about to mod an RME 9632 and an SM Pro Audio M-patch 2 volume control . Beside changing the caps I wanted to change the opamp on both and also the clock on the Rme. I was wondering if any of you smart guy wanted to guide me a little in my first quest to modding.

So here the info

Rme
current dual opamp = JRC 4580 in SO8 pin format
current clock 25.000mhz (in form of a square) see picture

RME modded
opamp options

  1. dual OPA627AU, dual OPA827AI, dual LME49990, dual AD797ARZ, dual AD797BRZ

on adapter
http://cimarrontechnology.com/single-to-dualop-ampadapterpn020302.aspx

for the clock im not sure at all and i need help
too much things i dont know to select the good clock
http://ca.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Frequency-Control-Timing-Devices/Oscillators/TCXO-Oscillators/_/N-7jdmj/

please check picture of clock and help me
would this one work http://www.crystekcrystals.com/crystal/spec-sheets/tcxo/CXOH20-BP-10.000.pdf

for the
M-Patch2
current dual opamp = NJM4558L In SIL 8pin format
also another opamp on the board near the output jack = njm4556al in sil 8pin also.. I wonder what both are doing anybody have an idea
current voltage regulator = L7812CV
caps = TFY caps

M-Patch2 modded
opamp = SIL single-to-dual Op-Amp Adapter + opamp
http://cimarrontechnology.com/silsingle-to-dualop-ampadapterpn040701.aspx

dual OPA627AU, dual OPA827AI, dual LME49990, dual AD797ARZ, dual AD797BRZ

So now I need to know if its a drop in replacement or if for the best sound quality I need to also modify something else in both

Also I need to know what opamp is the best in those. I'm a DJ and composer of electronic music and this will be coupled with Beyer T1 600ohm headphones and DT250 80ohm. I will buy a tube amp for the T1 but for now i decided that those cheap opamp need to go :) ..

In the M-Patch 2 im not sure if other part of the headphone should'nt be upgraded too. It seem to be a very simple design :)

I want to stay on topic but if you have any good recommendation for cheap but good sounding caps..

So from my reading I should go for the Dual LM49990 opamp in both cases but will it be a drop in replacement with the adapters and will it be the best of the best in the choices I gave you

dual OPA627AU, dual OPA827AI, dual LME49990, dual AD797ARZ, dual AD797BRZ

Also if the LM49990 is edgy, any recommendations to smooth it out with certains caps or ceramic caps or i dunno :)

Also If i want the RME to have the best power possible should i mod it using better caps or mod it to use a wallwart or on battery :)

Anyway i hope to start a discussion since it's an interesting topic :) and it will help me in my first trial modif.

In the pic of the JM54RA chip, what are those green cylanders with golden spring. I know its in power supply so my guess is that it could help to change those maybe for better power to the card

Ive read that the dual AD797BRZ could be an excellent choice but i wonder if it would work correctly in my M-patch 2 box..

anybody can comment on this
dual AD797BRZ vs dual LME49990

Do you think dual AD797BRZ might be trickier and most prone to problems in my setup

Hi sinae

Just wondering hows your modding going?
Because I am going to mod my 9632 analog part, but I am not sure which 4580 I should replace.
Hope you will help

Cheers
