Try AKG 271s/272. Excellent closed cans. Go for the velour ear cushions. These cans are very accurate with a slightly warm transparent presentation. Bass is just right--not too much and not too little. Terrific mids. Decent highs. Soundstage is good.

For open cans, I'd run with Grado (I use a 325i). I just like the Grado sound--the immediacy is stunning.

Tubes go well with jazz (I sometimes use a Pas 3 preamp and Decware Zen SET amp in my stereo kit--right now I'm using a McIntosh integrated at work and my speakers at home are powered Quad 12L's with an Adcom pre).
I listen to a lot of jazz--Coleman, Coltrane, Cook, Cole (it appears that I only listen to jazz artists whose last names begin with C).

Cheers!

depends on the type of jazz, I listen mainly to jazz from he mid 50s through 60s so folks like Monk, Mingus, Dolphy, Trane, Miles and Hawkins. This style sounds great out of the RS1 and my current jazz go to up is the AT2002. Now fusion I head straight to the AD2000.
