Hi,

I have a mp3 (&wma) player, the Sony NWZ-A818.
What would be the best IEM below 300$ to go with it?

I am tempted by the Westone UM2 (299$).
NB: for headphones at home, I use Beyer DT-880, which I like a lot.
Medium sounds and voices are more important for me than bass.

Thanks,
David

No doubt, the Sleek SA6 - $249. You can use the $50 you save on the UM2s to buy some new music for the Sony. Check the threads, especially the SA6 v. the TF10 thread, and the Sleek SA6 thread. Best value, considering some owners prefer the Sleeks to the SE530 and the Triple-Fis, which cost more. I have the A818, and the two make a great couple.

One of the Head-Fi sponsor, SoundEarphones.com, is giving $50 off SA6, bringing it down to $200. Just a heads up if you decide to go that route.

I am tempted to get one, as SA is offering a wireless solution later in the year with SA6.

I think someone said that Sleek SA6 coupon code is only good till the 7th. If I already didn't have Denon C700 and also not have a Yuin OK1 otw I would have jumped on it.

Agree with tstarn06. The SA6 is an absolute no brainer. I have the 818, and the two make a fantastic combination, better than when paired with the Zune80. SA6 and 818 have great synergy, and the midrange on the Sleek is about as good as you'll get in a non-custom pair of IEMS.

UM2 and 818 is a dream - No real his problems - they match each other so well.

Similar here: I'm using my UM2s with my A829 - I've heard they hiss with the A6xx/A8xx combo, but that's not the case here - at worst a very faint pink noise between cuts that must be listened for (I must add that I listen flat or with 1 or 2 tweaks to the equalizer - no clear bass, DSEE, or other effects). An Excellent combo, IMO. Good luck.
