Best High End Universal IEM, NOT A REPEATED THREAD

If you can't get hold of the e-Q7 then try the GR8. I auditioned them once and only for a short period of time but in that time I do think they are on par with the e-Q7 in terms of transparency and they have a much better fit but the e-Q7 does have slightly better treble. Don't take my word for it since I had very little time with the GR8 but I think Spyro has extensive listening periods with both of them maybe he can give them a better comparison.

The ortofon's sound like they would be good, but I don't want to sell me SF4, I need headphones which I can put through a fairly large amount of abuse. The GR8 were the other pair I'm interested in. Once again I'm back to SE530, TF10, GR8, or E-Q7. As for the first post on the second page, what is a DAP? I get my music from my dell studio 1737, I use apple lossless format, and yeah, the sound card could be way better, but I need to buy a new laptop to get that and I don't know the first thing about sound cards. As for what music I listen to, just about any metal derivative you can name, so I need high performance for power metal, I need clarity for the "core" genres, and I need clean, tight bass, audible bass for everything I listen to, I don't care so much about quantity, and would really prefer a flat sonic signature so I can enjoy all of my music. As for my benchmark for harshness, I consider Children of Bodom on Image S4s to be harsh.

ooooooo sounds like you listen to similar stuff to me!!! lots of CoB and After the Burial!!! but i've moved away from that as i got tired of it and started to listen to chinese pop instead. I ordered a pair of e-Q7s a couple days ago and im hoping that ill receive them later today (sooo excited!).

although im new to this audiophile thing, id get back to you on how these babies sound while listening to CoB and ATB. thats if they come in today...ALO Audio have not provided me with a tracking number so i dont know when ill get them...Oregon and Southern California isnt that far so it should only take 1-2 days...

GR8 and eQ7 use the same driver and are very close in sound to each other with e-Q7 treble being slightly more extended. It's a great sound...a polite sound if you will. But they don't have the visiceral puch like the Westones and Shures. It takes a little getting use to. Midrange is forward sounding.

Eh I listen to a lot more than just CoB, but I don't really bother to mention that because I can be specific about what I want, its really a matter of my Amon Amrth, CoB, In flames, etc. causes problems with cheap IEM where I experience physical pain like the mosquito noise. Everything else just sounds like crap.

Excuse the grammatical error in that quote, that looks really obnoxious. Anyway, I had supplied my output device, my studio 1737, itunes, sound enhancer off, apple lossless format. these headphones would be for home use or occasional portable use with my ipod nano 4G. Thats why I want to keep my SF4, so I have a pair of headphones that can get beaten up without setting me back 250 bucks (ebay price for most high end IEM)

I think JVC FX700 can take fairly large amount of abuse when using on daily bases. It's improved version of FX500 and the bass on FX500 is really deep, reverbing with extended clear highs. So FX700 has even better deep, punchy bass, rich detailed mids and clean extended highs with huge soundstage.

I REALLY don't trust wooden IEM, it doesn't seem like the best material for that purpose, but ill check the reviews

Actually I have only had the GR8 but have shared thoughts with a few e-Q7 owners that have heard both.

I find the GR8 having plenty of treble already and it is also very transparent. It's slightly warmer but the design would seem to be a much easier fit with GR8 IMHO.
e-Q7 extends treble a bit more but I am not sure how much I would like that extra treble.

My only real issue with GR8 was that (just like e-Q7) it is indeed very polite in the bass department. It's there, its more than an Ety, it has some body to it but it lacks any visiceral punch. I really enjoy (and need) a nice full-bodied sound with my IEM's.

Even though I'm probably not going to get them, how's the fit of the E-Q7? The were supposed to be worn cable down, look like the housings are about as big as the TF10, and don't have any angles to make them more comfortable, I would suspect that they would be extremely uncomfortable.

These are made with very high quality metrial and they are durable. I think they can be use for very long without any issues.

It may look as big as the TF10 but it really isnt. The TF10 is easily the most uncomfortable iem I have ever had with the e-Q7 being quite comfortable.

After wearing etymotic's triple flanges at maximum insertion depth for about a year, the TripleFi felt really empty, but I did the reverse mod and they feel fine at least for me.
