Best High-End Rock Headphones?

If you can find one and have enough money, the PS-1 is probably the best rock headphone you can find outside of maybe the L3000 which I haven't heard.

It also sports plenty of

I really like my RS-2's for rock, and they are in your price range if you buy used.

Are the Joe Grado HP2s still in production?

They really sound interesting.

No unfortunately. You might sometimes get lucky and find one for cheap in eBay, but mostly people ask stupidly high prices from them. Even headfiers are guilty of that.

IMHO, the RS-1 has considerably less bass response than the SR-325 so I wouldn't waste your money. If you can listen to one before you make a purchase. The RS-2 is another option and again IMHO, it has better bass response than the RS-1 but not much better bass response, if any, than the SR-325.

Happy Listening!

Less bass than 325 OR 325i...?

That's what I was wondering. Against the 325i, I'd say the bass is about the same in quantity, with slightly more when compared to the MS2.

Find a nice seller and they aren't that over priced. Considering the Edition 9 is around $1400 from NS&L, people are paying $6000+ for an HE90 and the Omega 2 is $1500.

If you look at it like that the HP-2 to me didn't cost that much since I can enjoy over 500 classic rock albums for the rest of my life.

Thats why I said lucky. Not everyone is willing to part from them, not without a high price.

Well I've found with Grados in general that they get more bass with a warm tube amp. Maybe getting a warm tube amp for your 325s is one solution. The HD650s will certainly give you more bass, but it's treble may be too soft. I haven't heard the Sony SA5000, but every indication is that it's hyper-detailed....so I would think that its bass would be lacking too. Since you have a friend who swears by his HD650, perhaps he'd let you try out his 650s on your system. Seems like you should audition some headphones before buying

Yes.. The bass is lean & transparent..

I can't speak for the 325i as I have never owned one but in my experience with owning the RS-1, RS-2, SR-325, GS-1000, and HF-1, I didn't care for the RS-1 and sold it because I found it lacking in overall bass response compared to my other Grados. This was with bowls.

Happy Listening!

Thanks for all of the input... I'm leaning towards trying some Sennheiser HD-650s with my Little Dot. I don't think I would hear much difference if I got the 325i.
However, The Beyerdynamic DTR-990 (2005) is also in the running.

I wonder which would sound better for rock between the two, with a tube amp?
