"Best" high end IEM or CIEM...

Cheating? Nah, just using other-worldly techniques to design crazily beautiful CIEMs. :D

I am about to try a pair of JVC HA-FX850s based on the early reviews and reports. They are way below the price range you are looking in, but they have some over the top recommendations. Their soundstage has been compared to the K1000 and their bass to the LCD2. It may be a lot of hype, but some of the recommendations were by someone on here who's ears I have come to trust. He says they are among the best sounding headphones he has heard, and they keep up overall with his HE6. I was struck by all of these comparisons to some of the top full sized headphones out there. Even better, they are universals so you can try them and then easily resell if they are not your cup of tea.

I just sent my AKG K702 Annies in for a trade. Was looking for another headphone. Just read your review as well of these. Just might have to get them. I was looking into orthodynamic headphones like the HE-4/5LE/500, Smeggy Thunderpants, Alpha dogs, Audeze LCD's... I honestly just like IEM's because of the power needed as well as the portability.

I just ordered my first pair of CIEMs - went with the K10s from Noble. Big purchase - a bit nervous and excited. I started with the Shure 535s, then went to the Ultrasone IQs, and now on to the K10s. Although nothing replaces hearing for yourself, there are appreciation and review threads on everything you're considering. You should be able to get a good feel for all of the high-end IEMs and CIEMs. Good luck - it's a sickness. I never thought I'd spend what I just did on a CIEM - go figure :)

Just a personal note from a guy who has done this whole dance before (SE535 > CIEMs) you may want to note that CIEMs are quite a different experience in user friendliness, plus fit and waiting time and the larger margin for error. I upgraded to a wizard design Heir 8.A (way back when) and after some unexpected fit issues, sending the CIEMs back and forth, I got to enjoy my CIEMs for a whole of 3 months before I got sick of the inconvenience of the CIEMs form factor. And so, after a while, I'm back to UIEMs, and have since learnt that CIEMs aren't quite for me. Fair warning, this has happened to a few friends of mine too, though I know many who enjoy their CIEMs.

Do note that you can easily get the same sound quality, and build quality out of UIEMs (now that Noble has their K10 universal) and the sheer ease of use has me forever committed to using UIEMs.

That said, the K10s seem like a fantastic choice, but if you do want end game sound with the "safety" of a UIEM, my top picks would be the SE846, Dita Truths, the K10 and AKG K3003.

I am a believer in IEMs as well, though there will be folks that prefer CIEMs, so we cater to both camps. But just because someone prefers uniersal IEMs, I don't believe they have to sacrifice artistic flare, so we offer "Pimped up" universals as well.

I have the roxanne and love them.
Either way prepair to wait 2-3 months and get a refit
Have them with centrance m8 .
I've had the sure 535, seinhauser m55 and they don't compair. They even outperform my Akg electrostatics

What is hard is that you can not compare. You have to get custom fitted for each and wait 2-3 months maybe send back for refit just to get one pair to listen too. I read lots of reviews and narrowed. It down to jh roxanne and noble chose JH because us made and can get easier than Korean company. Is there any way to compare CIEM s ide like to know?
I agree anything in this class should be awesome. Pick one you like and go within and don't look back. Better to spend on home and or portable Amp/DAC to pair your $1000 ciems with

Are you implying that Noble is a Korean company? If so you are mistaken as Noble is an American company

I have a question about cIEM vs IEM in general.

When is it worth the money to get a cIEMvs an IEM. For example, if you spent $300 on an IEM, you would be getting a moderately high end IEM while $300 on a cIEM is barely entry level. So would the $300 IEM sound better than the $300 cIEM? And if so, at what price point do cIEMs outweigh IEM in terms of sound quality/value.

Lets assume that there aren't any fit issues with either.
