Hey everyone.  I'm new around here and since you guys seemed to know more about audio than anyone else, I decided to ask you guys some questions.

I'm building a whole new PC set and I've found every part I needed except for a quality sound set.

I'm still wondering what is the best headset / sound card set I can get.  As of now I'm thinking of getting the Sennheiser PC 350's and a Auzentech Forte, but I would like a professional's advice before I buy the wrong items.

I will be using my headset 24/7 (for the time that I am on the computer) so comfort is a #1 priority followed by SQ.  I need sound quality to be at least: very good in gaming (for accurate position detection), decent in listening to music, and good for movies (since I watch many blurays on my computer).  I mainly wanted the Auzentech Forte b/c it has a microphone preamp, and headset booster(which are a must for me).  What do you guys think?  Any other headset/soundcard for same price range that are better?  My budget is $300-400.  If it matters, I will be using 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate so the hardware needs to be compatible.

Beyerdynamic DT880 + Asus Xonar STX and then buy yourself a mic like the zalman clip on mic.

Remember, my main use of this is for gaming, so strong positional sounds is a must for me.  I am not an extreme audiophile for music, just games.  I want to be able to be lead almost solely on sound.

around here the answer you will get is 'my fave headphone + clip on mic'. i use this combo most times due to my large headphone collection
however,
as a competetive gamer, i know sometimes a noise-cancelling boom mic is desirable.
that said- for a headSET:

sennheiser pc350: great sound after a simple mod, may get hot after a while, great mic

razer carcharias: open air, very comfy, decent warm sound (sennheiser-ish), decent mic

i have and use both of these. i have tried many many headsets and these 2 stand out. i have not tried a beyer mmx300 yet due to price, but it looks promising

...maybe because he didn't ask for a dedicated gaming headset?

Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro + AuzenTech bravura + Steelseries Siberia Clip-on mic

That's what I am going to buy next week, after months of searching the web for the best gaming solution :)

Hello all,

I'm actually looking at buying a new Hifi headset but also needed another headset for gaming. I was on the verge of buying one of the Razers yesterday but I could not justify the £75 price for a gaming headset. Instead, going by what I have read everywhere, the best solution seems to be to buy a decent Hifi headphone and add the mic after. I'm currently deliberating over a similar config to what tisb0b suggested as I already have an Asus Xonar Essence ST. Also, I mostly listen to metal and I read the DT880 would be ideal. I was also recommended it by a professional. I'm looking at the following setup:

Asus Xonar Essense ST -> Nad C 326BEE Stereo Amp -> Beyerdynamic DT880 + clip on mic

Great thread by the way

Auzentech Bravura = ~$130
K701 = ~$250

Fits in your budget. ;D

But for headset other nice choices are the DT770, DT880 and AD700.
