Hello all, first and foremost, I am new to this website and have did plenty of research on the forum. Now I have my questions, without making any confusions!.

Heres my question: I want headphones that is very good for Hip Hop, R & B, and other musics. I'm really looking for a detailed headphones that picks up most instrument and deep low bass out of music, without distortion or fade.

I want headphones that has crisp detailed sound that can handle deep textured music low bass (25-30hz bass notes). From my research, the Grado SR-60, Sennheiser HD-280, and Koss Pro-4AA are for the price. Are these good choices? If so which is the best to choose from. Please let me know of any other headphones if these are not the best choice for my needs. Thanks alot!!

If you want 20-35hz in the ~$100 range, I'd stay away from open headphones.

There isn't a lot of music with fundamentals in that range though.

Very true on both counts.

And no, judging by your music preferences, Grados are not for you. Sennheisers may be, but you'd have to buy the HD600 at least to get that boomy one-note bass you want (I'm assuming you're going to drive it stright out of an iPod or something similar).

IIRC, I found the HD280's to have some boosted bass in the 20-40hz region. I quickly grew tired of the rest of the sound signature, though - they were a bit lean in the 50-100 hz region.

You forget the grado's, if I were you I'd pickup a sextett EP/MP and you'l be in hiphop heaven imo.

Wow, interesting. Im actually going to use the headphones for my computer when I dont want to disturb anyone in the house. My computer has an Audigy 2 soundcard so thats a boost on sound right there.

I have some cheap headphones called the Labtec Elite 820, it picks up low bass pretty good, but the volume is low on the headphone. I just need headphones that are more detailed and can also pick up low notes like the headphones I got now, but in a much clearer and detailed way.

20-35 Hz is REALLY LOW. Remember, a subwoofer in a home theater setup usually crosses over, on average, somewhere in the 70-100Hz. 20-35Hz is even hard to hear sometimes. You generally feel more of it than hear it. My guess is if you're looking for a headphone to perform like a car audio setup with deep bass. If that's the case you're probably not going to be happy with almost all headphones on the market. However, I can say that despite what many people say about the HD280s lacking in bass, they do provide deep bass, but you have to mess with the equalizer. I've only heard the SR60 once but I doubt that would be the phone for you, as stated above. I can't say anything about the PortaPro....never heard it. Sorry I couldn't help you any better than that.

Lol ok. Well I guess im not making my self fully clear. The headphones I got now, is called the Labtec Elite 820, i got them off of Ebay for $20. It picks up all the low bass notes very well, that my car stereo picks up. But it just very blurry because its not a high-end sound quality headphones, it just picks up bass notes pretty good. Basically, I just want headphones that pick up the low bass sound of hip hop, rap, r&b, pop, or any music that my headphones does now, but in a more rich, detailed manner.

By the way, what type of music is the Grado SR-60 good for? Do you think its comparable to the Sennheiser HD540?

Grados are good for snarling rock with little impact on bass lines.

It seems you are a basshead first and foremost...I'm going to put a gun to my head right now and ask: Have you ever thought of something from BOSE or Skullcandy?

LOL!

Prodigy215 I'm not laughing at you, it's just the comment by MarchingMule. If you haven't figured it out already, the overwhelming majority of people on the forum hate both BOSE and Skullcandy with a passion, and therefore quite funny the way it was put.

I have only limited experience in headphones but maybe something like the Denon AH-D1001 might do that trick. They're a little higher than your price range ($150ish) but they seem to have good bass, run well enough without an amp, and should certainly sound better than the BOSE or Skullcandy. Anyone else want to chime in on the Denons?

EDIT: Crap, I thought you said ~$100 price range but it was actually ph0rk.

Actually the Denon AH-D1001 price is pretty good, I just found a pair online for close to $100 shipped. I did some research on them and they seem like a very good choice. Think its best for me to settle with these?
