I'm kinda new to the world of audiophiles and don't know much about headphones, so I would appreciate some help. As the title states, I'm looking for the best headphones for jrock and jpop under 300(preferably <250).

I listen to these bands/artists:
1.asian kung fu generation
2.the gazette
3.l'arc en ciel
4.SCANDAL
5.itou kanako
6.supercell
7.ClariS
8.flumpool
9.one ok rock
10.aquatimez
11.tomato n' pines

I'm currently considering the senn HD598, but there seems to be a lot of debate going on, which is getting me confused, should I buy them or are there better choices out there. Oh and by the way I live in vancouver.

The SRH840's perform this genre very well.

I personally listen to a lot of Japanese stuff and I think the K701 and the K550 do wonders on many songs that have strong vocalists; Asami Imai, Yanagi Nagi (supercell), Itou Kanako, LiSA, azusa, Mizuki Nana, and ZONE are some examples.. Though, I will say the 701/2's bass is a hit or miss with a lot of people...

I'm interested in the k701, but the price over here in canada is a bit over my budget. Anything else less expensive? Also what about Jrock? Most of the singers you listed are jpop artists.

I also really like them for J-rock like LAST ALLIANCE, South of Heaven, Sex Machineguns, FLiP, Flaming June, School Food Punishment, and Girls Dead Monster. AKFG sounds great too, but I don't listen to them often.

But, since it's too expensive, how much are the AKG K550's there? I've also heard that the SRH840/940 is good for this genre too. Or even the Beyerdynamic DT series;the 880 Premium 250OHM would be good for rock.

Are you looking for a closed or open back headphone?

It might be a little late to mention this but, I want one that can work well with my ipod touch 4th gen(with e6 amp) and pc. It'll mostly be for portable use though. Also the k550 is available at a headphone shop near me, but I'm still  wondering if they are the best or are the srh840/940 better?

Hellou. I have Fischer FA 003 and Audio Technica M50. I also have FIIO E10&E11.
I would recommend the Audio Technica M50 for Jrock and Jpop, because for me the highpitched japanese Jpop singers feels the best with a good bass. I'm not sure if I am a basshead, but it just sounded good. Jrock sounds good too. Also M50 doesn't really need a amp, but I felt the sound got better when I tested it amp vs my laptop or maybe I just got the Placebo effect....
My overall headphone opinions might change in time once I get more into headphones and sound world, but as for now I feel that it is like this. Just my two cents

I listen Mell, KOTKO, Mami Kawada, Ayane, Kokia, I've Sound, Back-On, UVERworld, SID, Acid, Siam Shade, Rookies Is Punk', Last Alliance and L'arc En Ciel...
