Best headphones for bass?

A double on the DT-770 PRO 250ohm.

Beware of the 80ohm version though – they will kick royal arse bass-wise, but very much to the cost of clarity and overall detail. With that said, I really enjoy their aggressive, 18'' scoop-like pant-flapping qualities

HFI-780. Bass is punchy as hell, but still manages to have a great level of detail and doesnt't pollute the mids. I listen to rock, metal, their rap hybrids, R'n'B and some electronic music. They're really awesome for those genres.

Have to distinguish between good, impactful and balanced bass...

or

Massive quantity which is not the same as above.

Denons and Pro900 are where Im looking for the bass! I am quite frankly scared to admit that the XB700 are interesting. Those with higher end cans even enjoy them as a guilty pleasure. Might check them out at your price range!

For around $150, the dt770/80's are pretty good for bass. Then again, I haven't really compared them to much else besides the DJ1 and HFI580s (those two are the same headphones, just relabeled for different markets...) but I like them for what I've heard so far.

The M-Audio Q 40 have the deepest and hardest hitting bass I ever heard on a headphone.
I compared them to the XB700, and the Q40 wins. No doubt.
I can stand the XB700 bass, the Q40 bass is too much for me.

at the higher end of the price range, FWIR a Denon D2000 could be just what you are looking for.

To me, the quality of the Q40 and XB700 bass is much better than the untextured D2000 bass.
I would take those two any way over the D2000 for other reasons as well.
The D2000 will do some things better, for example a more refined sound, more detail and a lot more highs.
But they also do some things wrong, like the undefined and slow bass, recessed mids (especially vocals), shrill and sibilant highs, boring and fatiguing overall sound. The other two doesn't have those problems.
All IMO, and maybe I had the wrong amp for the D2000, because others love them.

True but the D2000 are great if modded from what I hear. I am luck enough to hear some D5000 and D7000 tomorrow and even a Beyer DT880. Never got to hear headphones before throwing money wildly before Im very excited!
