Looking to buy a new pair of cans, tell me your guys' best pair for #1 sound quality and #2 comfort...UNDER $300!
Preferably but not limited to: closed, detachable cable, somewhat good looking, usable with an mp3 for portable

I'm really into every genre of music, so a nice flat or balanced pair would work best. Don't really game at all and I don't have an amp for portable but I have an old tube amp at home I can prob hook into but I've never tried.

Fischer clones (HM5, XPT100, &c.), but they're pretty bulky. There's not much closed that sounds good and is also comfortable.

I don't know if you're willing to consider IEMs--you mentioned portable--but RE400 would work well. Best luck!

hp100/150 could be great option if you are looking for a closed back option.. there are plenty of open back options like 612pro,q701,dt880 but those headphones should be amped to get the best out of them.

@claritas
Those are a bit under the quality I'm looking for, and I would like some over ears(avg size ears).
I know there aren't many and that's why I'm asking you guys, cause the pros know the ins and outs of this area better than I do.

How would those compete against the akg k845? I would like something I can use with my phone on the go, but I can also amp at my house.

if you also planing to use this as an on the go headphone, then you probably need stick with a closed back portable option. as Ginron mentioned in the previous post Sennheiser Momentum (over ear) is a great option.. I haven't heard the k845, but I d generally avoid Bluetooth options..

the k845 can be wired too which is what caught my attention so I'm not stuck to Bluetooth 24/7. I've read good reviews about the momentums and seem to be a more widely known headphone which is better as well. Not to seem whiney but I do prefer a headphone that looks somewhat nice and black momentums don't really catch my eye but of course sound quality trumps that 100%
I'll research a bit more, thanks

+1

The HP100/HP150 is also a step up over what the HM5/FA-003/NVX headphones do in terms of SQ, although the HM5 clones are certainly more comfortable. Not that the HP150s are bad at all, but the HM5 clones are like wearing mushrooms on your head. LOL
