LCD2 does a better job for rock than HD800 to my ears. I prefer a warmer sound anyhow, so the LCDs were my pick. I'd listen to both if you can to see what sounds best to you.
 
I like my LCD2s for general listening, and they do a great job across all genres, but when my music features mostly guitar work with strong vocals (ie. rock, folk, blues) I always find myself putting Grados on.

There are no "best" only different sound signatures. I like Grado for rock music

Have you heard either one?  Grados were made for rock though.

Love my Denon's (D2000/D5000 and D7000) for rock.............Rush sounds awesome on them.

I have a number that I like but one that is a favorite is my incredibly inexpensive Superlux HD681 Evo. It is just plain fun to listen to rock on.

LCD-2 kicks the HD800 to the curb for instruments. i.e. guitars, drums, bass etc..
 
It's the opposite for vocals, detail & soundstage.
 
I did A/B test between both of them.
