I don't agree, I think HD 650 is one of the best cans for classical music, and I don't see how the HD 650 could have augmented bass. If we look at the frequency responses from the HD 650, the DT 990 (2006) and the K701 =255&graphID[1]=549&graphID[2]=591&graphID[3]=&graphType=0&buttonSelection=Compare+Headphones]-->here<--, I see no augmentation in the bass of HD 650 compared to the others. This is probably just a question of source+amp pairing, my CORDA OPERA makes these HD 650 sing with classical, perfect midranges, huge soundstage and instrument separation.

Yep, all ranges are important to classical, afterall, there are lots of instruments that produce very low sounds used in symphonies etc. definately is important to me. I feel that no range in the HD 650's frequency response is augmented, they work in pretty perfect harmony for classical IMO.

HD650 paired with the Darkvoice 337 (and the right tubes, e.g. JAN Philips 6SJ7WGT & RCA 6AS7G) do classical well, IMHE.

However, I still reach for the K501, and plug them into the Bada PH-12, for no-holds-barred classical listening pleasure!

Compared to the HD650, the K501's soundstage is an order of magnitude larger and the AKG's seamlessness really give them another leg--or is an ear?--up on the HD650, IMHO. : )
