I am looking for a headphone that is good for classical music especially with a lot of violin and high instruments. My budget is $300. Max $350

Marantz home stereo amplifier. I'll have to check the exact model number. Other source will be iPhone and ipad

Heya,

Look into:

Beyer DT880 250ohm
AKG K702 / Q701
Hifiman HE-300
Sony MA900
AudioTechnica AD900X
Sennheiser HD598
Philips Fidelio X1

Very best,

I'm not expert of classical music but you might want to give a look for Bowers & Wilkins P5 too. If you live near Apple Store you most likely find pair to listen there. http://www.amazon.com/Bowers-Wilkins-Mobile-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B003IHUHGE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379263528&sr=8-1&keywords=B%26W+p5

Comfortable, durable, great sound, and very portable.

Ordering replacement cables from B&W have been frustrating for me though. It shouldn't break in normal use but my dog seems to like destroying those cables...

Beyerdynamic DT880, 32 ohm version.

eww get the Pro 250 version, the 32 ohm are a little hard to drive [they need a lot of current]

but the Dt 880 are still great cans regardless of which version u have

Oh yea... the AD 900x :O I just got mine in today and I'm suprised! It sounds like a mix between a Dt 880 and Dt 990... which is great for EDM and Classical not to mention the bass is not a BIG hump like the Dt 990 so it's really an ideal Classical can imo

An excellent option would be, if you have more patience and save a bit more money, ATH-AD2000X, buy second hand on head-fi. Great for acoustic orchestral sound and for vocals.

I'd only recommend the AD900x for small chamber music. Larger orchestral pieces tend to sound a bit smeared :/

Depending on how the Marantz powers it's headphone jack?
If the Marantz come with it's own dedicated headphone amplifier or uses the speaker amplifier to drive headphones might make a difference on what headphones you get, so if you can post the model number of the Marantz, I can look up the manual, at leaset see what Ohm range Marantz recommend for headphones.
With the iPhone, would you be using headphones around the residence, or maybe hanging out at the local coffee house? or Library? etc.

The only headphone that you may need is Sennheiser HD600, DT880 Beyerdynamic 250 ohms pair up those with cheap amp such as FiiO E12 mont blanc will do and magic! I have experience in playing Piano, orchestral members, conductor and music student, so i think you should quickly get those and experience the real Albert Hall. :D
