I am looking for some suggestions of headphones to take a look at. My music tastes are jazz and classical, slightly more jazz and a little bit of pop/vocals thrown in as well, something in the Norah Jones camp. Just as a reference I heard some HD800's and that is what I want, only at about half the money. I have an amp and currently using some Grado's but they don't do classical very well in my opinion. So looking for another headphone that will.

I don't think you will loose much by going with the HD 700s

Hey, you should consider Beyerdynamic T90

If you listen to top quality recordings and have a powerful Amp with low output impedance then you might consider AKG K702 as well.

Best Luck!

- good speaker amp: go for HE5/ HE6
- sennheiser HD 540/530/565/560/HD600 + bottlehead crack or equally good amp. Beyerdynamic T1 ($600 used) + crack ($300) is a great combo if you can stretch your budget.
- audio technnica W5000

Many plausible candidates: HD6x0, Enigmatic Audio Paradox, used ESP950, used HE560, ZMF v1, HE400i. (I vote no on HD700, Senn's person with Grado.) Best luck!

Stax sr-207, though it lacks somewhat in soundstage if you listen to a lot of orchestral classic music.
