He is right. You can spend up to $200 on a 10-15ft. extention, or you can make one just as nice with $5 worth of starquad, and about $15 worth of connectors. Assuming that you have the ability and tools to make 6 solder joints. It would be very worth your while to give it a shot.

chances are if you are looking for high performance headphone extensions.. they are hand assembled. If they are hand assembled, it can be DIY

silver, silver plated copper, full copper, take your pick

Also throw in gold, gold plated copper, gold plated gold/silver/copper alloy, beryllium copper, carbon...the list goes on

Sonic Horizon Hurricane ( if your not into DIY) is the one I use,I have a 20 footer,I am not to crazy about the star quad cable.
