The noontec ZORO II HD and Philips Cityscape Downtown are great on-ear options. Both can be found for under $100. Noontec makes a wireless version of the ZORO II which also sounds awesome.

If you can stretch your budget to $400 the Oppo PM-3 seem like they would fit what you are looking for.

Others to consider are the PSB m4u 1 (the non noise-cancelling version) and the NAD Viso hp50. These are other closed-back headphones that have gotten great reviews.

Do you really like the Downtown? Tyll wrote a pretty positive review about them.

I have a pair around here, and I find them really hard to enjoy.
The sound is pretty nasal and really congested with slightly complex recordings.
The sound also varies a lot with placement and fit is not that great unless you have a really small head.
When extended the force is not perpendicular to the ears and fit is clearly less than ideal.

Clarity with simple music is quite good for the price and they look cool, but I couldn't recommend them.

The fit is much better on the Fidelio M1, isolation is much better as well.

You should consider the Focal Spirit Professional and Focal Spirit Classic. You can read about them here:

The Soundmagic HP150 is a very good headphone, and a bit cheaper.
Here you can read about the HP100 (HP150 is the upgraded version - little bit better here and there )

Last but not least you could also read about the B&W P7

Best Luck!

I do like the sound of the Downtown. It also measures well which supports this claim, but the fit is an issue being on-ear. It feels janky at times, but because it comes in different colors I like suggesting people listen to it because it is a good sounding headphone with style options.

I mean look at the measurements:

For a headphone under $100 they measure very well.

Compare it to the LCD-2 for example:

Thanks for your reply.

I've measured a few Downtowns in the past but none of them looked like Tyll's measurements, although most of my headphones look quite close to his plots.
I still have a pair here so I'll measure them again later. Maybe I can get similar FR if I apply some more pressure.

I partially agree that being On-Ear one cannot expect perfect fit, but that said, I had the Yamaha HPH-200 and Fidelio M1, both On-Ear designs with much better fit (IMO).

I think the biggest thing to look at during measurement is the seal. This is critical for any closed headphone and if the sound leaks because of poor seal the measurements and subjective listening will suffer.
