Sony MDR-CD380 $36 new at amazon.com
This is one comfortable and sonically versatile and enjoyable set of cans.
Listening to the CD380 is sonically similar in many ways to listening to
the AKG K240S ($100 new), which I prefer to the Grado SR225 ($200 new).
That is not to say that I think that the CD380 are as good as the K240S, but the spectral balance they offer and their overall sonic response to various musical and sound genres is quite reminiscent of the K240S. I think, coupled with their comfort, that is an amazing statement about them at their price point.

Damn. Every time someone hears the CD380s they like them. It's killing me. They must be pretty good. I... think... I... must.... succumb.... to... temptation....

J-curve's frequency response curve of the CD380s looked pretty awesome too.

Why, Steve999, what are you looking for? Maybe the MDR-CD380's will fill your bill.

I have sooooooooo many headphones. It's just headphone addiction at this point in time. It seems like it might be one of the very best headphones at its price point. I am just dying of curiosity.

Some itches are best left alone, and some are best scratched. You're in the best spot to decide which kind this one is. If the CD-380's were as good as the AKG K240S at their price point, I'd say definitely, go for it. But I found them as ENJOYABLE (to me) as the K240S at their price point. Kind of a lower resolution version of the same kind of sonic picture given by the K240S, with occassional blemishes in the sonic image where the CD-380's don't have quite the capacity of the K240S to deal with amounts of signal before getting saturated. But overall, if I don't squint and focus on the details too much, I get the same kinds of enjoyment and much of the quantity of the enjoyment I get from the K240S over the same broad range of musical and sonic genres. I am pretty amazed at that, given the price point of the CD-380's. Overall, they are really versatile, musical and involving cans.

I agree. Unless perhaps there are still any Grado SR-40 kicking around.

The Creative HQ-1300 (aparently a cosmetically modded Labtec Elite 840) is a fairly nice Groovalizer for ~ 25 - 30 Euro. Pretty comfy, too...

Greetings from Hannover!
