Alright, so ive been reading alot of the reviews on this site and other various sites. My main game I play is cs, and I play for competition so as you know sound is key. Currently im using Plantronics DSP-500's, they are good for CS but they break every six months and im on like my 9th pair. They however suck for movies and music which is the other use for my computer. I have a soundblaster X-FI platinum and it is connected through a optical digital connection to my home theatre system, however im usually up late nights (1am+) and I cant just blare my music living at home. I want to get some headphones with a great soundstage but also suitable for music/movies. I do LAN but open/closed design doesnt really matter, currently I am looking at the beyerdynamic dt770/80's and the AT a900's. With all that said, lol, can you give me some advice =) thanks for your time.

Without an amp, the DT770/32 might be a better idea than the 80ohm version. That and the A900 would both be a great choice.

DT770 Pro

Not going to go into detail as they're both recommended for gaming. You may need an amp for the DT770 though, not required; but the bass gets real nice with an amp. Also if you say you LAN a lot, I would go with the Beyers. I''ve owned them before, and Beyers are built like a tank compared to the AT headphones. Metal headband and nice velour cushy pads for comfort.

I just got the 770/80's and I'm in love with them. Even without an amp, the bass is fantasic compared to my old HD570's out of my Soundblaster Live!, but thats probably not saying much. If I ever start feeling theyre insufficient though, I'll look for an amp, but right now I'm really happy with them.

Many here will also recommend AT A500's. - the closed kind. It seems to dominate a lot of similar threads if you do a search.

AFAIK only available direct from Beyerdynamic direct. A bit pricey too I think.

Edit: Beyerdynamic Manufaktur

You can get the DT770/80 Pro from Ebay from a seller called 'guitarinsider' in the 130-180 range. Depending on how many people are watching/bidding etc. They are brand new too.

If anyone knows of a sub-60 price range gaming headphones of the closed-ear type that are decent I'd greatly appreciate it. My current pair is being held together by twist ties and I'm not sure how much longer it will last.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, maybe 20, you can maybe find some good deals on the A500 on the FS forums.

But if you want new, I've read another headfier recommending the Koss porta pro's for gaming. I sometimes use the KSC 75 on my laptop when I'm lazy, and it's fine for that. Bass doesn't go too low, but with the porta pro's I think it might be a bit better, esp compared to other cans in it's price range.

Edit: Saw you said closed type. I've heard people recommend the AKG26P in that price range. Good bass and closed sealed type.

You can also get the 770/32 from Meier. But, I would recommend the 770/80 over the 770/32.

Ah thanks for that, didn't know that. Thought they were custom only. Well I guess they would in the retail channels in Europe, duh @ me.

Yeah I read another headfier that had the 250, 80 and 32 and said he preferred the 80 version. I believe he said that the 80 has the most less recessed mids of all of them. Think it was 'skylab'

hmm as i was originally leading toward is the dt770's hehe. im suprised no one recommended sennheisers, they are pretty popular in the cs community. Not only their usb/pc lineups but the hd555s seem as popular. Well thanks again for the input.
