Sound quality should be identical. They are "lossless" files, after all. What matters is what works with your setup, and what can compress the most. Rockboxing an iPod will allow it to play FLAC files, which are specially designed to require far less processing power to decode than they do to encode, making them more usable on portable devices than most lossless codecs. Not sure about ALAC, though.

Hi, curious to know how much soundcard and cd rip software makes music sound better. are the result significant if rip cd with better software and better soundcard?. Also which software and soundcard are the best?. Thank you,
