Best earphones rightnow?

That's perhaps the loosest spec i've ever seen here. "best earphones, max $100". Why do you think there's 13,000 members and 750,000 posts? It's because no-one agrees which is best!!!

Tell us where you want to use them, music types, portable or not, circumaural (around your ears), supraaural (on your ears), earbud, or ear canal.

Do yourself a favour and buy a canalphone. The MX500's suck to the ground if you're thinking $100. For $50 you can get the Senn 497, which is at least 50 times better than the MX500 at $10 something $20 something. No kidding. Sure, it is crazy to compare it with a full sized can, but why buy something worse if you could spend a couple of bucks more? Afterall your budget's $100. Just do it.

From my experience, you can't get better than the Grado SR80 or Beyers (fellow headfi experience) around that price, cause canalphones only shine and outperform headphones at the price level of Ety ER4's and Shure e5's, which is way off budget. Get a full sized can (search) or get a canalphone if you must. PS: Canalphones don't get "that" deep inside the ear as you may think. EG. the e3c's I own are more comfortable than most and are more practical than earbuds, which tend to fall off. Get the e2c for a canalphone under $70 or a Sony EX71 which is cheaper.
