First of all, a proper greeting...Welcome to Head-fi, sorry about your wallet!

Now that we have that out of the way, you might also look at the Philips HP460. Those who have heard it say it is very comparable to the K81 and many seem to prefer it. It's also cheaper than the K81. As for myself, I love my Beyer DT831's. They do need an amp, but you can usually find them used for under $100 which leaves plenty for a decent amp.

Congrats on getting a great deal, I'm looking forward to your impressions

They really are ugly, but sound so damn good & revealing that looks really don't matter. Also, Be sure to give your ears time to get used to their "different" sound signature.

I am a new member, and just noticed this. Is there some kind of Headphone Expo coming to the Boston area some time in the future?
Thanks

I've read that the HD25 is pretty easy to drive. Not too sure about the other cans.

You haven't tried the HD485's or the HP460's.
You fanboys WISH there were only K81DJ's.

AFAIK, there is zero reason to spend extra money on the 7506's when the MDR-V6's are *exactly* same cans (but with a different-colored plug and different stickers on the sides).

For what the 7506's will cost you, you can get the V6's, plus the Beyer ear pads to replace the pleather ones, plus a CD.

No one mentioned the A900.... pretty much every close cans thread and A900/DT-770 are considered to two top cans.

I have read from others here quite a few are going with the new 2006 model of DT-770-80, since its bit more balanced brinds the mids out also....

But yeah there almost 2x the price well in uk they are.

thanks for all the info.

last question, rank these options for use with an ipod

new 2006 DT770 (250ohm) with a cheap amp
new 2006 DT770 (32ohm) no amp
old DT770 (80 ohm) with a cheap amp

(or did i already put them in the right order?)

---Cmoy amps look sweet can you guys recommend someone who makes a good solid trustable amp?

Since there is virtually no difference b/w the 250 and 32 ohm versions of the 770 - or if there is, it's apparently to the advantage of the 770 - the cheaper and less bulky 32 ohm + no amp option would make sense.

The best sound will be from the DT770/80 and a $50 amp from the likes of Xenos (OHA). This is a great combo I have personally tried.

The DT770/32 (which I also own) do fine right from an iPod but still sound better with an amp (as do all headphones IMO).

I don't see any reason to buy a new DT770/250 - the 32 ohm version sounds a little better, and it's at least possible to use w/o an amp.

But I prefer the DT770/80, and I am a DT770 "enthusiast"
