Dorati is my goto for Rite of Spring. Either version.
I quite enjoy the Bernstein reading, but my favourites are Ancerl/Czech Phil, Boulez/Cleveland and Dorati/Detroit SO.
All good IMO.
Nice to see Ancerl and the Czech Phil. mentioned.
The CZ Phil is a personal favorite orchestra for me in general.
Stravinsky's own recording is of course an important document.

This is interesting, because for me it is "only" an important document. I don't feel anything magical about it.
Nice inputs so far. Thanks guys.
I never listened to Boulez/Cleveland but it comes quite often when the Stravinsky's Rite subject comes to the table....
LIsten to the Boulez/Cleveland.
It's amazing.
The performance is as good as any and the sonics are incomparable IMO.
In all seriousness listen to the Boulez/Cleveland.
I even know several Boulez haters who were blown away by it.
What record label do you like the Boulez/Cleveland on? Amazon has a few listed.
I picked up the Elliot Carter on your recommendation quoted below, nice.

I like this one..
Thanks, perhapss.
The Boulez Rite I'm referring to is the DG one. It's absolutely demonstration worthy in terms of sound quality.

Yes, I feel the same. Still, it was very interesting to hear his tempos and approach. The big difference with many other performances is the lack of Hollywood style histrionics and hysteria, which is maybe closer to how Stravinsky conceived it, whether we like it or not! This is interesting, because for me it is "only" an important document. I agree it's maybe not the most "magical" performance but any opportunity to hear a great composer interpret their own work is a privilege for me.
Stravinsky was not generally regarded to be a great conductor though.
