I have been looking at the Xiaomi Piston 2 because they are currently on sale for $17 but I have also heard good things about the Philips SHE-3590 and JVC HA-FX40.

I want to use they to listen to music on HTC One and when I work out and run. I have little knowledge of headphones, but I have looked around and narrowed it down to these three.

Do you have any advice on which one I should get?
Thanks for the help!

Have a look at the Sennheiser CX 300 II. I own a pair. They are no longer up to my standards (I'm now with the Klipsch X7i), but for on-the-cheap, the CX 300 II are hard to beat.

How do you feel about the three that I listed compared to the Sennheiser CX 300?

I never tried them. Sorry. I only threw out a suggestion that I had experience with.

Monoprice has $7 earbuds that sound better than any earbuds I ever got from any company for less than $80. They require a bit of burn in because they have large drivers. But for $7, you can't beat them. Klipsch image s4s were the only earbuds I ever had that I liked as much, but they had less sound isolation, but were more comfortable, and $73 more expensive lol.
