I have a friend who is starting to get into audio, very DIY oriented, and I was wondering which kit to get him! Probably a cmoy of some sort, portability not required, just whatever seems to be the best overall under $40. Or $20 and I will pick him up one of these too!

Well I have but I'm unsure of which one.... Different qualities and such.

Simple, cheap and good quality for the price. All that's missing is a tin can and a battery. It's probably not "hi-fi" though. Once in a while I hear the name of this seller around here, with positive experiences.

Seems fun to build. Needs a regulated 24v supply, which should be quite cheap and easy to find.

Probably more "hi-fi", and a better challenge to build. It needs a 15-0-15 transformer and an enclosure, though.
