Are you using a PC cd recorder? If so...

I prefer TDK cdr's, i've never had a problem with them, even after 2-3 yrs of owning a TDK cdr with music or data on it. Plus, they're cheap, i found 150 Blank 80 minute bulks on chumbo.com for $59.

By the way, PC cdr's are now known as 'Data' cdr's, the ones branded 'Audio' are overpriced so some of the profits go to the record industry.

The Silver and Black bottom cdr's are NOT 100% compatible with all players, so you should avoid those for now. Light green bottom cdr's seem to work better than dark blue dyes, i'm sure other folks will chime in with their favorite brands.

It just depends. Some CDs work great with some burners and not well with others. With Kodak Gold (no longer available), which the professional archiving community considered to be about the best, I got probably 1 out of 3 dics blown on my machine.

The only real way to know is to use an error checking machine. Sepensivo.

Mitsui is very well regarded.

DON'T use real cheap stuff- it will die in a few years.

really?? cheapos conk out after 3-4 years ??
any opinions on Verbatim Data Colors (they seem to record audio well but will they die in a few years)??
I've gone through several brands with mixed results...
I thought Maxell Gold Brand was it when I successfully used
an entire 25 pack; HOWEVER, next 25 pack were completely
unwriteable. I don't know if a slightly different dye formula
or what....

Interesting...must depend on combination of CDR media, CD burner & CD Player....
Some CDR's will not even be writeable with my --admittedly, cheapo-- CD burner & others will write but will not be playable in
my--admittedly, old-- CD player....

Anyone have info on longevity issue? Are there really CDR's
that last only 3 to 4 years ???

. . . the Quantegy Gold CD-R. Quantegy is the company that bought Ampex and which makes other pro audio blank media (such as studio-quality analog tape and ADAT tape). I haven't toasted a single Quantegy CD in the two years during which I've been using them.

You can get them for $1.59 apiece, or $1.00 each if you buy them in quantity. My supplier: Canal Hi-Fi in Chinatown, NYC.

uhhh...I didn't quite get that...could you repeat that brand name, gloco?
wink.gif

thanx, I'll give it a whirl-- I try to buy them in smallest quantities
at first...what I find is a bummer is buying a 10 or 25 pack,
finding out on 2 or 3 they won't write & not being able to return
remainder !

hehe, i've gone thru a thousand TDK's and the only time i've gotten botched copies is when the software crapped out on me.
