The iBasso D7 are amazing for the price and it can replace the soundcard.

Yeah. E-MU 0404 is a banker. M-Audio Fast Track Pro is decent as well.

However the new kid on the block is the Focusrite 8i6.

There is also the 2i2 which is cheaper with less facilities but might be sufficient for your needs.

Also brand new is the NI Traktor Scratch A6 if you don't want mic pre-amps. £30 above your budget but you do get a 'free' copy of Traktor as part of the deal.

Thanks for the replies

The Focusrite 2i2 seems like a good choice, however I need to be clear of one thing.

Will the headphone output be a good match for my custom n ear monitors, Starkey SA-43. These have an impedance of 50 ohms. The are said to be fairly power hungry.

The specification page of the 2i2 makes be a bit confused.

Please can you help me with this decision.

I have the 0404USB, while I love its sound...I hate Creative's driver support. Still no non-beta Windows 7 drivers and Windows 8 is about to come out. I have 0 hope of Windows 8 support. Is there another device that uses the AK4395 that sounds pretty similar to it?

Sorry man. I made a recommendation but I don't own a pair of IEM so I was hoping someone else could help you with that query.

My best cans are the classic tracking/DJ Sennheiser  HD 25-1 II. These are famously easy to drive to an ear bursting SPL.

Likesay. No experience with custom Starkey SA-43. I'll look 'em up but off the top of my head I cannot see why they would be a problem.......

Ok, so i found out that that the headphone output impedance should be 1/8th of the impedance of the headphones.

My Starkey SA-43 are rated at 50 ohms, so this means that the headphone output should be 6.25 ohms or or less.

The Focusrite 2i2 has a headphone output impedance of '<10'.  Would this be ok?

Sorry if I am being really picky about things, but there is not point pairing a very expensive set of custom iems with a headphone output that will not fully unleash the potential of the iems.

If anybody has any suggestions about a usb interface with a low impedance headphone output, please let me know.

Thanks

Bump

Any suggestions for a usb interface with a very low headphone output impedance. I think the 10 ohms of the focusrite 2i2 is not low enough.

Thanks

Sorry for being impatient, i just need to purchase something now

The only blip I've encountered with the Saffire is that I can't have other audio devices connected at the same time, but have had no issues with my mice, hard drives, flash drives, etc.
