hey guys, i just purchased a lite-ah from a forum member and looking to ditch my audigy 2. i'm going to be happy to see this thing go. the card has been the very definition of pastic music ever since the day one. it was bad when i had my first audiophile loudspeaker, even worse when i got my senn hd600, and now that my diy loudspeakers are complete, i am just about ready to feed this thing to the hammer. i can't believe i didn't change it out sooner. i just need something that will do proper 44.1 digital output and you know, doesn't suck. thanks in advance.

Based on the info on these two pages:

http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/home

and

http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/supporteddevices

the Diamond XtremeSound XS71 is supposed to work with those drivers and produce 16/44.1 bit perfect on the S/PDIF out...$25 or so at a lot of places, including newegg (though newegg is out of stock at the moment):

Workaround to install the above drivers on Vista:

Well, there are other alternatives with those CMEDIA chipsets, but if I'm not mistaken, the 8738/8768 chipsets are getting pretty long in the tooth, likely not good for gaming.......and again, if I'm not mistaken, these drivers are designed to use such a card primarily as a digital output device, not for gaming.

I have received responses within a day or two from the developer of those drivers by using the email address from that first page link above. I'd suggest contacting him with your concerns, because any other solution is likely a lot more expensive, and maybe not the best for audio.

Where and how did you hear this? I would like to help but I don't know much about Vista.

i got the diamond 7.1, installed the c media driver but i cant seem to get kernel streaming to work in winamp. no way to contact the c media driver people as far as i can see. but with this driver, does kernel streaming really matter? how can i get it to work? using vista basic. thanks.
