I like the PX-200's and the Koss Porta Pros. The KSC-35 have great sound for the price but are a pain to take on and off for me.

Hmm, ok, so the choices you guys have made for me are...

Sennheiser PX100
Grado SR-60
Koss Portapro
Sennheiser HD 497

Mmm... the grado's kinda look big for portable school use lol... Portapro I might look into, along with the px100's. But one thing... if you had to compare the Sennheiser mx500 to the mx550, would you choose the bass over clarity (in your opinion)? Cause I saw them in the best budget headphones in the 2003 one, or at least the mx500

The MX550s ARE nicely detailed, but the bass was lacking, IMO. The PX100s bass absolutely THUNDERS in comparison. If you like bass, I can't see the 100s letting you down. The MX550s are a bit more portable, though.

My girlfriend uses my Sportapros for running. It's funny -- she snaps it back the streetstyle way, but then she wears it on top of her head. She says she gets the best fit that way, compared with the other two ways and the Porta Pros. She also used MX500s for a while, but then complained that her ears were too small for them.

One thing, though about the Sportas: Last week she complained of a metallic clicking sound, but it seems that was happening becuase the foamie wasn't covering the driver in this one spot where it touches the headband. It seems fixed now, but we'll see after her next long run.

Hmm... question... if I took out the rule of it having to be open, what would be the best choice (I still don't like earclips lol). Cause I'm comparing the ex71's vs the px100's. I am looking towards more bass and clarity though... So I don't know... depends. Since I usually listen to rap and hiphop, which usually have the bass. But yeah, really I want something in the price range that gives off clarity, bass is sort of an issue, but I want headphones in this price range that somehow defines clarity.

the px100s are fairly bassy, but they do it quite well imo their strong feature. overall quite nice sounding tho, if a little polite. I would avoid the HD497 and sr60 for active portable use since they dont really stay on the head well and the grados particularly are fragile and much heavier than the others. I'd try the portapro and px100s, usually you can buy them at big box stores that allow returns so you can see which sound you prefer (I stuck with the px100 cuz its more comfortable and less ugly)

Since I'm using MX500s with my iPod Mini at the moment, I'd like to add that these phones are a bit large-sized for my ears, and I have big ears for a girl. XD Getting a fit to where they sound good is a bit difficult. I find that I can't wear them for nearly as long as I could with E2cs.

I prefer canalphones, anyway, but its nice to have a pair of open buds. I think I'll make these my "at work" buds once I get me another pair of canalphones.

For comfort's sake, I'd say that the MD33s are probably the most comfy buds that actually sound good. Just as comfy as the EX70/71 without the bloated bass.

Hmm, so pretty much, the choices are ex71's (md33's are in a store I don't know of, bluetin I don't know where it is located lol), sennheiser px100, sennheiser mx550 (since apparently the earbuds are a bit huge for mx500), and what else... Btw, if I really must, I am eliminating the factor of it being opened or closed... Cause its... somehow going to be my Christmas present ish... (grr, I need em now...)

For the money, the KSC-50's and KSC-35's can't be beat for the price. The same holds for the SR-60, which is about double the price but is definiely worth every penny if you can stretch it.

MX500s are great for little cheap earbuds but if you want clearity and bass the px100s beat them. Unless midrange is very important to you. MX500s are better (have more) at that.

Seems pretty obvious to me that PX100 or Portapro is what you're looking for.

(disclaimer. Never heard the portapros. Just putting them in because others recommend them to him/her and they are generally discribed as somewhat alike in sound to the PX100.)

You can order MD33s from Audiocubes. There's a link to the site in the upper right hand corner of Head-Fi's layout. =P
