Posting for a friend (he saw my new A-500's and got interested in a better set for himself):

"I already have a decent set of phones for gaming, but I want a new set for listening to music. I have a 2 year old M-Audio card, and I don't want to have an amp. I like to listen to music with a bit of bass (techno, a bit of rap, some trip-hop). Is there a decent set of closed headhphones (within my price range) that have good bass?"

So, his best bet would be to buy my newly purchased a-500's off of me so I would be "forced" to upgrade? Semi-jk

So there is nothing under the price of a-500's that would fit his needs better?

Find a pair of beaten up DT770s used on ebay, would never do it myself but it would be a good choice if you don't mind aesthetics, and no the HD280s would not be what you're looking for.

No way, 280Pros are very bass lacking.

I think he'd like these, they have impactfull bass and a sweet midrange, which the A500s lack.

280s will lack bass if you dont EQ them, but they have a very clean punchy low end which will go down as low as your ear can hear, you just need to give them a boost in EQ, its all there waiting to come out. You cant go wrong with them for bass IMHO.

If you can get them for $85 its a steal, I would go for it.
