also was looking at thees polk 45b monitor speakers for awhile now, do you think they would fit fine on the sides of my monitor in my pic? and is it worth the extra money over the normal polk 40 monitor which is 129.99 at same site?

How about a powered 2.0 or 2.1 setup? In your budget, you could get the M-Audio AV40's or even the next one up the BX-5's. Then add a sub in later. Or even the Audioengine A2's, but those definitely need a sub in the future with their 3" drivers.

Paradigm atoms are good, but the ebay listing is overpriced. I would look into purchasing the klipsch b-20 or the psb alpha ps1.

. . . and then later on i was going to upgrade my center and rears as well

You'll want your center to timber match whatever bookshelves you buy, which typically means buying another of the exact same speaker or the center sold by the manufacturer to match the bookshelves.

Cambridge Audio S30 are on closeout at accessories4less.com (Cambridge Audio has released a new model). Great speaker for the price. However, if it will be too long before you buy the matching S50, you might have a problem finding it.

I would go for a pair of active speakers. Like Behringer MS40 with inbuilt dac. New around 160, but you can surely get one used on the ebay cheaper (or similar pro-speakers). For the same price yu get, as a rule of thumb, a better sound than passive version. Inbuilt DAC and headphone amplifier is a gift for this price.

The man has a receiver already. a $200 passive speaker is going to sound better than a $200 active speaker for the most part.

You don't need any special amp to power them. They would be just as good.

thank you everyone!!  im most likely going to get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2P213D7783

although for the price should i just get the s30s you listed? how much better is the new model do you think? and the s30 i see have bi speaker wire things, my reciver cant do that, so would it not sound as good wth just normal wire?

I have no idea how much better the SX50 is. If you want a better speaker than the S30, I can recommend the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SEs. They work great for a computer desktop setup for music and gaming. I like them much better than the S30s.

Biwiring is a gimmick. Just run one set of regular speaker wire.
