Hi, I'm lucky in that I have approx £500 spare to upgrade my audio . All I own is in my signature.

Any recommendations or obvious gaps? I mainly listen to jazz on local flac files at home. I don't listen alot outside of the home.
Edit prefer to buy used where possible
Thanks

Sennheiser HD6xx/HD650+good OTL amp

The 6xx is in your budget but the OTL amp isnt. Depending upon how attached you are to your headphones, perhaps move some and get the amp?

The sony IER-Z1R should be a happy addition.

Edit: sorry I missed that amount! For your money, do yourself a favor and buy the TGXear Serratus and Ripples!

I own the hd660s and am happy with them. £500 not enough for decent tube amp?

The difference would be in the impedances of the two. The 660 is 150 ohms and the 650 is 300 ohms. OTL amps perform their best with high impedance headphones. I admittedly have not tried a 150 ohm headphone in an OTL amp, so I'm not sure how those two would interact, but I guess you could ask in the HD660 thread.

As far as a decent OTL amp goes, if you know basic soldering you could build yourself a Bottlehead Crack amp, which is a great bang for the buck amp. The next cheapest I have tried and liked would be the La Figaro 339. Regardless of which OTL you decide to go with you need to factor in the cost of tubes/valves as the ones that are included with an amp are typically not good sounding at all.

Thanks for both of your suggestions.

Money spent on TGXear Ripples. I had been reading the TGXear thread earlier & have taken the plunge. (also easier to hide from the wife than a new amp :L3000: )

They're gonna sound amazing with your amps!

Also great that TGX will ship to you included in the price I think.

Hi, yes, they took about 7 days to arrive. Very impressed with them.
They should sound excellent with your Chord Mojo!
