Best audio quality for $100: Used Cowon J3 vs . New cheap DAP

Just want good sound quality, don't need bells and whistles or good video. Can get a used J3 and know from experience it had great sound back in the day but how would it compare to the new 2018/2019 $100 offerings for playing FLAC files?
