I'm not much of a sennheiser guy (electrostats excluded) , but recently... have become tempted to give them another shot with a high end amp. Seeing how I'm not the biggest fan of there style to start from I'd like to go with the best at 1700, rather then go for a sds-xlr or blockhead (although seeing how the used prices on these has dropped I guess this could be considered).

Few questions how ever-
1. Is going balanced that much better?
a. If so which source should I go with?

2. Which sennheiser should I go with?
a. I'm not very aware of the differences when they balanced. I know for example some people like the ps-1 vs rs-1 , but then when balanced prefer the rs-1.

I really would like to get the biggest possible sound stage and the most detail. Realize I also own an Audio Technica l3000, so if this combo doesn't offer some kind of advantage over my l3k's , there really is no point in owning it.

One of my dream HD650 setups would be :

Benchmark DAC1 XLR Out => Dynamight => HD650 w/ Blue Dragon II XLR

There's a used Dynamight going for sale at $1800 (Kurt).

If you don't like the HD650s balanced, just recable the L3000 and run them out of that rig.. bound to sound pretty snazzy.

1. Yes it is clearly better but twice the price. If you can go for it.
a. A balanced source of course!
2. HD-650

My current dream setup:

Marantz SA-11S1-> Zu Gede XLR -> Singlepower XLR -> HD-650 Mobius XLR
