Already well into 2012, we look back on 2011 and it was a pretty good year for music. I'm curious to see head-fi's take on what the best albums of 2011 were.

I have a personal top 5, and while it's pretty tentative, I feel these were the albums I got the most plays and offered the best complete listening experience.

1. Starfu*ker-Reptilians
2. Radiohead - King of Limbs
3. St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
4. Phantogram - Nightlife
5. Feist - Metals

You don't have to compile a huge list or anything, maybe one album in particular really stuck out, but what do the audiophiles think?

I have yet to check out the rest of this thread but thank you for that Starfker album. It really is amazing and I can easily see how it makes the top of your list.

It was indeed another great year for music. Even so, the majority of the great discoveries I made this year were released prior to 2011. It seems like that's always the way. Not bad.

But here are twelve 2011 releases I fell in love with. In no particular order and with Youtube examples linked for each one...

Cymbals Eat Guitars -- Lenses Alien
Craig Wedren -- Wand
Okkervil River -- I Am Very Far
Amplifier -- The Octopus
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead -- Tao of the Dead
Cave In -- White Silence
Portugal. The Man -- In the Mountain in the Cloud
The Joy Formidable -- The Big Roar
St. Vincent -- Strange Mercy
TV on the Radio -- Nine Types of Light
Unexpect -- Fables of the Sleepless Empire
Young Widows -- In and Out of Youth and Lightness

Colour Tripp by Ringo Deathstarr, and Take Care by Drake were the two that really kind of stuck out the most for me this year

Great Mass by Septic Flesh
King of Limbs by Radiohead
Deconstruction by Devin Townsend
Cherish the Years by Cold Cave
Atrophy by Baring Teeth
Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83

^ Were other albums that I really enjoyed a lot

Really big disappointments were Mastodon and Opeth releases
