Already well into 2012, we look back on 2011 and it was a pretty good year for music. I'm curious to see head-fi's take on what the best albums of 2011 were.
I have a personal top 5, and while it's pretty tentative, I feel these were the albums I got the most plays and offered the best complete listening experience.
Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Lite
Wino - Adrift
Burzum - Fallen
Sarke - Oldharian
Sol Invictus - The Cruelest Month
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, just looked quickly through my library, and those are the ones that stand out.
2011 was a great year in terms of new music releases. Compared to the previous couple of years it was almost like a tidal wave. I still have several albums I need to get better acquainted with, but here's five stand outs off the top of my head:
Björk - Biophilia Boris - New Album Iiro Rantala - Lost Heroes Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow Radiohead - The King of Limbs
I was a huge fan of The Bees Made Honey... but this one didn't seem to grab me. I wasn't disappointed, but I guess it didn't hit me like their last album. I am looking forward to Part II next month, though.
Some of my favorites:
O'Brother - Garden Window
Radiohead - King of Limbs
The Black Keys - El Camino
Thrice - Major/Minor
I wasn't very impressed by the new albums from Bon Iver, Elbow, or Fleet Foxes. There are fantastic tracks on all, but I felt like their previous albums were stronger.

I think Bon Iver's album was especially disappointing. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a decent album overall, but compared to "For Emma, Forever Ago" his self titled obviously comes up short.
Hell yes, best hiphop album of 2011 EASILY. Weekend at Burnie's is right up there though. I feel like when it comes to Section.80 I can put the album on repeat for HOURS and it still feels fresh.
I'm glad someone mentioned Angles and Yuck's self titled. I've been listening to Yuck for a few days now, I and I like it way more than anything Cajun Dance Party put out. Yes I'm serious.
Thanks for the input everyone, there are a lot of releases here I didn't even know about. I still need to listen to Thrice, The Black Keys, James Blake, Battles. Whew, twas a great year indeed.
