A friend of mine asked for some advice. He needs a new pair of cans for his computer. I'll lay out the the needs in a list for easier reading/understanding:
The audio source is a Asus Xonar D1, no dedicated amp for the moment
- 100$ budget, maybe a little more if they are a very good deal or if they ship from europe. He'll need to pay VAT otherwise and we need to account for that.
- flat response would be ideal, although I don't think he would mind they are a little bass heavy or v-shaped, since he mostly listens to house/electronica/hip-hop
- doesn't matter if they're closed or open
Bonus points:
- easy enough to drive by a smartphone
- good for gaming
I think that with the preorder discount, the Brainwavz HM5 are a steal, but I would love to hear some other opinions. Is the Xonar D1 powerful enough to drive them?
