Benefits of low/highpass input filters.

I was just wondering what everyone's take is on filtering the inputs of an amp. I know Dr. Gilmore's tried and tested method if just taking in a signal and pumping out a bigger one has the results speak for itself, however I've seen a few other designs too.

Some designs use paralleled low/high pass filters, my guess is to weed out anything that the amplifier shouldn't be amping. Peranders uses this I THINK in his tpa2610 amp, along with a resistor to ground beforehand, (my guess is that it shows a consistent load to the source).

So I'll start the arguement off by asking which sounds better
