You should be using 24-bit fixed padded to 32-bit as you get more resolution out of lossy files
i am using lossless only , and i am wondering if its better to move to 24bit-fixed padded to 32-bit. Right now i am using 16bit fixed. I always thought it would be better to let the DAC handle every upconversion, and let the PC just do its transport work. Can anyone explain, please?
For lossy sources (MP3, OGG, MPC, AAC, etc) it would be better to use 24-bit padded to 32-bit because then you get more resolution from the file, however for lossless you see no gain by upconverting to 24-bit in the transport stage (unless you're applying other DSP affects).
