I have to express my wishes better then.. it's HD280 vs. DTX900 atm for
me... on the area of Trance, classical and HT... what has your preference?
(it seems nobody has the DTX900, so this is a hard one...)

They may look ugly, but they are VERY good at most types of music. Also, they are excellent at not letting music out, but they don't block out noises that well.

They are easily driven by portable players. Mine has 2x7mw and does it fine.

You can get them from hobbytron or veronica.co.uk

I would take the Grado, if leaking is not important... i find them more articulate and detailed...

What about the Sony V6s/7506s? They have been known to have great sound for closed cans and they cost ~$70.

I havn't heard DTX900 and my experience with 280's was very limited (they were brand new and not burned in at all). But in my experience senns are very dependent of burning in period. Fully burned in 580 easily match burned in 600 for example.

mozillion you might want to consider the philips HP890
they wil cost around 70-90 euro's but they outmatch easily almost every headphone in that class and higher. and the best is that they are easy to get in holland.

Mozillion,

Jan Meier ships for free? I don't get it, maybe he meant that he equates shipping in his prices. And you do know he's Dutch? If you buy anything from him you can transfer money to his Dutch bank account, at least I could.

Forget about the Grados. Prices might seem nice but they don't allow US sellers to ship outside the US. You'll have to buy them in the Netherlands where they are easily twice the price

The Alessandro MS1s are like the Grado SR125s (€250 in the Netherlands if I remember correctly) but as I'm told a bit more neutral and sell for $99 shipped to the Netherlands. You just have to hope customs won't pick it up.

MS-1s. $99, free shipping. Comparable to the Grado SR-125, but with at more neutral sound. You can't go wrong, believe you me, from a owner to a future owner.

the king of open phones at this price point.

i have had the dt231 and still have the ksc-50, px200, and mx400

i think the ksc-50 is the best one out of these if you don't mind the clipons followed by the dt231.

the dt231 and ksc-50 sound is very similar imo

If I had $100 I'd go with a gently used pair of Grado 125 or Senn 580 (e.g. demos from audioadvisor.com). But I haven't heard the MS-1....

I especially like the Grado SR series for TV and DVD watching--they are really fine for dialog, explosions and the like.
