I used to post here quite often a few years ago. Phones started to suck up too much of my money, so I stopped using the forums and my wallet was made slave to photography. Recently, one of my friends was interested in getting a portable amp and a pair of good sealed phones. I've been out of the loop for so long, I dont know what to reccomend anymore, anyone care to help? Thanks in advance!

Tell us more... does he want to use them while he's moving around, or on a bus, or home/work? What's his budget? What source?

Ok, just saw your edited post.

For portable cans try the Sony V6 at around $100, or the Beyer 250-80 at around $200. Both should be ok without an amp, and I can't suggest a portable amp anyway.

Quite portable. The seller even sometimes builds them out of Penguin Mint tin cans
