Old thread for sure but still relevant. My HP DV7 quad core came with Beats built in. HATE IT!. It has been common knowledge (if you do your research) on HP's site that others have run into the same issue and HP would not fix it... In my case everytime I fire up Win7 Beats is disabled by default but instead of the V curve mentioned this reset the sound card tone controls to max boost of treble eg +4 and cut the bass eg -12. Loopback test with ARTA/REW answered that one in short order. PITA everytime I fire up said machine must reset the tone controls. Spent a day outside testing a TL a couple years ago I had designed and after collecting everything up reviewed my results that night after dinner. WTH?! Wasted a day and couldn't return to redo all my (polar) measurements for a couple weeks due to in-climate weather. Uggg.
