Bassist lead heavy metal

Not really metal, but Girls Against Boys (sometimes referred to as GVSB) are bass-led, and they can get pretty hard, but they're mostly "alt-rock" and cool and groovy, so you probably won't like it. Maybe "post-punk" is another good label to throw out there.

"Bassically"/"N.I.B." by Black Sabbath (especially the opening few seconds of "N.I.B.", where he turns up the volume, so that the amp is forcing the strings to feed back a little) is classic bass metal. And that album (Black Sabbath) recently came out on a deluxe edition (or was recently announced).

If you don't mind oldschool some Manowar albums are very bass-prominent. The bass solo in Achilles and Hector is pretty interesting.

You'll have to be able to handle a high cheese level though.

You might be interested in Sabot, a duo playing proge-punk.
Music is instrumental, has bass lead and is accompanied by drums.
Heard them live twice and least live they make your head bang
