Might be worth trying the D2000.

You're on a roll. I agree. The DT990s are anything but warm, though I believe they were referring to it being warmer than the cans he owns.
Edit: sorry wrong thread.

My DAC and amp combined are some what on the warm side of neutral ~ might just be me but this
DT990-600 legend of being bright is just not happening for me.

Thank your setup then. Get a neutral-ish setup... you'd see, the innate sound of the DT990 is quite bright, bass aside. Like a refined AD700 with a massive dose of bass that doesn't bog down the peaky highs.

I think I understand how the dt990's bass is now, and the warm sound isn't extremely important. Out of the dt990 and the d2000's, which would you say has better soundstage?

The D-2000 has an excellent soundstage for a closed headphone, but it is no match for the open DT990.  I own both and always use the 990's for movies, gaming, and most music sessions. The D-2000's are a fun set, but I prefer the sound of my 990's with a tube amp to tame the highs a bit.

Ultrasone PRO 900 or Denon D2000.

Oh boy, the DT990's soundstaging is really great.  It's considerably better than even something like the AD700, which a lot of people say to have a freakishly huge soundstage.  I don't agree on that.  The AD700 might have the raw perceived distance for a select couple of recordings, but the DT990's imaging is so good.

DT990's soundstage is its main benefit over the D2000 in my opinion.

Alright, so I think I've come to a decision on an amped dt990. Those look like they really meet my criteria. Does anybody have any recommendations on ohms/amps?

Gwarmi mentioned the 600Ohms cans with the Audio GD NFB-12, that looks like an awesome setup, but very pricey. Does anybody have a cheaper setup in mind? Or could I possibly just buy the cans, use them without an amp, and then possibly buy one in the future? How are the dt990's sound from just a computer or my tiny E5?

Just wanna chime in with my new DT990 Pros. Those are definitely bassier than the Premium DT990/600. So if you want even more bass, the Pros are it.

No better or worse than the Premiums. The DT990s are known as Beyer's Grados, so I would guess that yes. I haven't played rock on them yet.

edit: Listening to Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. Enjoying it as much as I could enjoy it.

Haha, just listened to that on 320p on youtube with apple earphones to see what it was and I almost laughed aloud when I realized that words cannot describe the difference in quality between what you and I are listening to.

And beyer's grados sounds pretty good to me.

Personally though, I think the Premiums do Rock better. The bass on the Pros is a bit too exagerrated, while the Premium (600ohm from my own experience) is tighter, quicker, and less distracting.

I'm starting to feel these have too much bass. I hope it's just because I have a headache, lol. I guess jamming out ain't helping. XD

From my readings I would suggest Beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm or Ultrasone Pro 2900. But I haven't tried either... will have DT900 600ohm headphones at my door tomorrow. :)

I'm not a big fan of the small sound stage on closed headphones, but some of them do have a larger quantity of bass.
