Yes it is a difference in sound . I keep getting them mixed up about how each sounds but have not heard the purplehearts but have the ebonies and own the mahoganies. I know the Maggie’s have the biggest bass and the Ebonies are more closer to neutral if I remember correctly. The Mahogany is more of a fun headphone a bit V shaped so the mids are not forward like they are on the 6xx’s. I don’t tend to wear headphones for a extended period of time so don’t know how they would be for hours but think they are pretty comfy not like the HD-800’s or Koss ESP-950’s but still quite comfortable to me.
