Hi there

I'm looking for some recommendations for new headphones. I've been using Sennheiser HD 212 pros for the past 5 or so years which I've enjoyed.

I like the bass response in the 212s. I also have a pair of MEE M-duo earphones which I love. They have fantastic bass and good mid/high response as well (better than the 212s).

I'm essentially looking for a pair of headphones which has a similar sound quality/signature to the Mduos. Bass heavy but with minimal compromise of the mids and highs if possible. Not interested in muddy bass either.

After something ideally in the $100-250 range, looking for the best bang for my buck so all suggestions welcomed that match the sound profile I'm after.

Cheers!

I own HD 380 pro and this is the best bang for bucks i met so far. You have a ton of bass but clear, precise and ohhh dam so fun to listen to. It as a close design and for me who listen between 60%-90% of the volume on my ipod the leak is not so huge. They are 150$ on amazon.com.

The Yamaha HPH-MT220 is my only recommendation because it has both powerful bass and excellent clarity.

An ultra-budget option is the semi-open Koss KTXPRO1, which has even better sound in some ways, but perhaps not overall.

I had HD 280 pros for years then I got a pair of HE-400's with a EF2A amp and I was hooked then I found Head-Fi and I was even more hooked my wallet has the scares. The HE-400S is close to your budget if you can do open that is? A great headphone with better bass than the 280's. As with all things audio YMMV

For bass heavy headphone, a close design is a better fit, and HD 380 pro has greater and better bass.

You have the 400S's?

The 400S has much better bass than the HD-280's don't know about the 380's haven't heard them. My HD-700's have much more bass than my Ether-C's and the Ethers have more bass than the closed Ether-C's so closed doesn't mean more bass.

I said a closed headphone is ab better FIT for deeper bass but doesnt mean it has greatter or better bass. It's normal if you compare a 200$ headphone with a mighty hd700 at 700$ the hd 700 will be better.. even its open. But Hd380 pro > 400-He > 280 pro in term of clearer and deeper bass

The 700's can be had for under $400 now a great bargain IMO. Haven't heard the 380's so can't say.

Yeah probably in USA, in Canada HD 700 retail 1100$ and the best deal I saw was 450$ + shipping used condition. Just got the HD 598 CS (close design). It's boomy but not clearer and deeper than HD 380, reminds me of the 280 but more high. It's a colorfull headphone I would say. Normally Senn makes neutral headphone but this one is out of the line.

I also agree that if you want powerful bass, as in far more than is in the recording along with extra impact, certain closed headphones tend to be better for that. The HD 700 leans more towards an audiophile sound than a basshead sound. Although the bass and lower mids are boosted a good deal (click here for measurements), it doesn't have nearly as much impact as basshead headphones or the MT220. (Which has near-basshead-level impact that can rattle your head with some recordings, but without sacrificing clarity.) And planar magnetics almost always have linear bass, though it can be emphasized a bit by the higher frequencies being rolled-off and so on.
