Hi there :)

Currently i am using the Sennheiser HD650 connected to my Xonar Essence ST Soundcard. When i first got them i was quite underwhelmed of the Bass they reproduced, but burning them in for several hours improved the situation. Changing the OPAMPS on my Soundcard further improved the Bass.
I love to listen for hours and hours with them. But mostly progmetal and progrock. Though the Bass is ok right now, i am just missing the powerful impactfull deepass bass with Power Metal, Pagan Metal and Melodic Death Metal. (e.G. Sabaton, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, ...) I love Bass it makes me move (my head  )
For my portable rig i prefer AKG K518DJ. Listening to the above mentioned Genres i even prefer the 518 over the HD650, they just have more power and impact. Downside is i cannot wear the 518 for more than probably 1 hour. Damn these things are so uncomfortable!

So what am i looking for:
-BASS! Heavy cans (Sound signature like the 518s but i am not shy 'bout even more bass)
-no harsh heighs! i like to listen really loud
-closed cans
-circum aural
-comfortable!

Browsing the forum i currently found the following headphones to be appealing (my budget is 200€)
-Audio Technica ATH-M50
-Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80Ohm
-Ultrasone HFI-780

Any opinions on those, or other candidates?
Thanks in advance.

Out of the three you mentioned I'd choose the ATH-M50's, because I like Audio Technica's 'house sound' a lot, although these phones probably have less bass than the DT770's and HFI780's

Other cheaper candidates could be the Shure SRH-440's and Audio Technica A500's, the latter I own and are great for rock, but again not as much bass as the DT770's and HFI780's.
Avoid the A700's, which have less bass and a bit harsh treble, if you can get a good deal on the A900's I'd go for them, although (for the 3rd time

) they have less bass than the DT770's and HFI780's

So to conclude: if bass is your main priority get the DT770's or HFI-780's
Out of these two I'd choose the DT770's.

If ou can audition the German Maestro GMP450 Pro.
I have the GMP 400 which are excellent but are open, very comfortable though.
I also have the Ultrasone HFI 780, but the GMP 400 are also great for bass.
Maestro have an EU loan project, read the thread http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/ger...rogram-447840/
Good Luck.

get the denon AHD-5000 and forget about it. except for the deep and powerful bass they are also a world class performance headphone in every espect. they are closed by the way.

I am a basshead too and listen to the music you listen, and I found the HD650 lacking in bass also.

That's right, way beyond my budget... especially here in germany  -> 548€

Right now i'm very tempted to just get some 770/80 from Thomann in Germany. Free shipping 149€... and if i don't like them, there's no Problem returning them...

hmmm

well..you can also settle for the ahd2000. they should be bass heavy also, but not quite as the ahd5000, also they supposed to have some more energy in the treble area and are more farward sounding, so the ahd5000 is really the one for you...sorry you can't afford it. but maybe you could wait a little and save some money for it....it will be well worth it IMHO. they worth much more than what they cost IMO.
I have mine for about a year and a half now, and still getting blown away by them every time. especially when plugged in to my headroom ultra micro stack.

Hehe.

Planning following: Trying the DT770Pro now, either keep it or send it back afterwards and then save some money... or sell the HD650 and get the AHD5000

DT770/80 is ordered. I will have a listen.

Thanks

I don't think the dt770 will give you bass impact like the denons will. but good luck with those anyway, you may like them also. but you will never know what you are missing....

The DT770 Pro 80 have more bass than the Denons. The Denons are all around better, but the 770 Pro80 have more bass.

The DT770 "Consumer" headphones have LESS bass than the Denons, though. They too are better all-around than the 770 Pro80. The 770 Pro80 are a very different headphone than the regular 770's. VERY different.

X2 on the 770 Pro 80
...but if you can, and feel like it, sell your HD650 and buy the D5000 and use them for all music types.

Try the 650s with an amp that can actually drive them, that might open them up. They need decent power and that means a good desktop amp.

If you can't hear anything else, then there is such a thing as too much bass, particularly if you spending up big just to get that. Might as well get some Beats by Dre.
